The Project
The Road Efficiency Group (REG) is a collaboration between Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ), and Road Controlling Authorities (RCAs). It aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local and regional road networks and the NZ transport system. For over 10 years, Auxilium has played a key role in supporting REG by developing and implementing key initiatives to enhance capability, best practices and investment decision-making.
Learning and Development Programme
Since 2015, this programme has delivered 540+ workshops to8,000+ attendees, building capability in transport planning, asset management and investment decision-making. The learning and development programme has maintained a 90%+ attendee satisfaction and average of 86% road controlling authority attendance over nine years. It provides training, resources and support to improve evidence-based decision-making, improve asset management and increase capability of the transport sector connecting to 68 local authorities, State Highways and Department of Conservation.
Excellence Programme
Developed in 2018, this initiative supports best practices in transport planning, asset management and delivery. Auxilium created the framework and assessment programme, training material for assessors and supported the evaluation of 14 of RCAs, promoting continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
Activity Management Plan (AMP) Reviews
Auxilium developed the AMP Review framework and completed three review cycles across 68 RCAs (2018–2024). The reviews assess AMPs to ensure alignment with best practices, national guidelines, improvement planning and investment priorities, supporting effective transport planning and resource allocation. This work has supported the NZ transport sector to show tangible improvements in asset management planning.
